Interiors and Exteriors: recent works on video by Paul Landon
Lecture by Paul Landon
Presented by Gabriela Golder
Telefónica Foundation’s Space
The repetitive geometric structure inherent both to the urban design of the modern city as to the architecture that makes it, composes the essence of the artistic practice of Paul Landon. Paul Landon makes works of art of the media -or media art- whose temporary and spatial form has a calculated and serial focus. While the temporary form of the work comes also from the exploration of the pedestrian activities while they sort out the city inherent geometric, the temporary and spatial aspects also take elements of the serialized logic and the reductionist focus of
the minimalistic artistic practices.
Paul Landon
will show a selection of the works he has made since 2002. Those works consist of single-channel videos and video interventions that incorporate moving image to the architecture of his presentation and explore both the external outline of the urban public space as the architecture of the internal private space of the city.
Since 1984, Paul Landon has showed his videos and installations on museums and galleries, exposition centers and festivals around the world. His work integrates the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montreal and Museum of Quebec. In 1989, Paul Landon graduated from the Jan van Eyck Academie of the Netherlands, where he studied video and sound. Born in England, he lives and works in Montreal, where he teaches Media Art on the University of Quebec in Montreal. Nowadays, he’s in Buenos Aires performing an artistic residency in the framework of the PROGRAM OF GRANTS AND FINANCIAL HELPS OF THE NATIONAL CULTURAL OFFICE.
